Is scabies contagious?

Yes, scabies is contagious. Special care and treatment is to be taken for the person who is infected with scabies. Sleeping with your partner, sharing of clothes, towels, bed sheets are few examples by which family members can get affected.

Do family members also need treatment?

Scabies is highly contagious disease. It can take up to 6 weeks for the symptoms to appear. In some cases, people become carriers of the mites i.e. they will not show any symptoms but will transmit the disease to others. It is suggested that everyone in the family uses Tetmosol Soap even if they don’t have any skin problem to ensure that the mite is eradicated/ removed from the entire household. Are there any side effects?

Tetmosol contains a drug known as monosulfiram. This particular drug has been reported to cause rashes in some individuals. However, this side-effect does not happen to all people who use Tetmosol. Other than this, there are no known reports of any serious or mildly serious adverse or side effects of using Tetmosol.

How much time does it take to cure scabies and related problems?

It depends on severity of problem or infection. If you don’t see a visible change in 5 days, please contact your doctor.

Can it be used all over the body?

Yes, it can be used all over the body including head scalp.

Is it safe for children?

Yes, it is completely safe for children to use Tetmosol soap.

Are there any precautions to be taken?

Do not use this soap if you are allergic to sulphur.
Do not use if there is adverse reaction from previous use.

No, Tetmosol can be used on a daily basis as long term usage is not known to cause any long-lasting serious adverse effects.

Why do I have a rash, blisters?

When you are infected with scabies, these mites burrow inside your skin and lay eggs. This causes hypersensitivity of your skin which leads to itching. Skin is allergic to these eggs and mites. This causes rashes and blisters. Rashes can be due to some other skin related problem also.

Who should be treated? Who all should use Tetmosol?

Scabies will persist indefinitely if not treated. Treatment is needed for:

  • Anybody who has scabies
  • All household members, close contacts, and sexual partners of the affected person - even if they have no symptoms. This is because it can take up to six weeks to develop symptoms after you become infected. Close contacts may be infected, but have no symptoms, and may pass on the mite.
